Here we go again!
Well... kind of. This was our first experience with this awesome event. And it was totally awesome!
Salt Lake to Saint George. 424 miles.
Rock on, honey!
Our friend, Jon White, was putting together a team so he called up Caleb which was great because Caleb has been wanting to do this race for years.
My cousin, Clay, is the owner of the race. Owner? Is that what you'd call him? Event Coordinator? Something like that. This is me and my chillins' chatting with my Aunt Janis, along with a while crew of cousins who come to support Clay and get the race off to a good start.
Time to go! Caleb's team had 6 riders, he being the 6th rider. They each had four legs to ride, from 15-22 miles each.
Clay's giving them the low-down before the start.
I like it when the camera is in Caleb's hands. Things get a lot more interesting.
Bye bye, boys! See you tomorrow!
Their start time was 10am, and they were planning on finishing in Saint George the next morning around 11:00am.
The kids and I waved goodbye to Daddy and headed back to Midway to pack up the car because we were getting up early to drive down to St. George and be there for the grand finish!
The boys spent much of the next 24 hours doing this. Also sleeping.
So, like I said, the kids and I headed home and packed like crazy people and Hanna came over with her stuff because she was going to come with us to St. George because the road trip wasn't ending there! It was going on! More on that in the next post.
So, 5:30am the next morning, we loaded up the kids and scooted off down the road, with plenty of time to get to St. George by 10 or 11.
Caleb finished at 9:00am.
Oops!
Way to go, babe!!
His teammates weren't even at the finish line! They were all chillin' in the motor home because they didn't expect him to be back that quick! He finished the race, then walked over and knocked on the motorhome door. True story. They all felt super bad but were also super stoked that they had done so well. They weren't expecting to be awesome, but because they were they're already planning next year's race :)
We did get there eventually.
And there was much happiness all around.
Best absent support crew ever!
Maybe next time we'll get there on time.
:)
